The night before the burial of her husband 2nd Lt. James Cathey of the United States Marine Corps, killed in Iraq, Katherine Cathey refused to leave the casket, asking to sleep next to his body for the last time. The Marines made a bed for her, tucking in the sheets below the flag. Before she fell asleep, she opened her laptop computer and played songs that reminded her of him, and one of the Marines asked if she wanted them to continue standing watch as she slept. “I think it would be kind of nice if you kept doing it” she said. “I think that’s what he would have wanted”.
-Not sure what is more honorable: Being married to this faithful wife to the end or the Marine standing next to the casket watching over them both.

Well this is something extremely new for me. I never thought in a million years I would be someone who would keep a blog, and now look at me, sitting in front of my computer writing! Now, for those of you who know me, I’m not the kind of person who let’s people into their deepest of emotions. I may talk a lot, but it’s very difficult for me to express how I’m feeling in words. I hope that through this blog, I’ll be able to write about things I care about, what I’m feeling ect, more for myself than anyone else because it’s always a good thing to write what you feel down. So here goes nothing :)
“Dance is your pulse, your heartbeat, your breathing. It’s the rhythm of your life. It’s the expression in time and movement, in happiness, joy, sadness and envy.”- Jaques D’Amboise-
Dance is something that we take for granted. We dance when we’re happy, or if we have to pee but dance has a completely different meaning for me. I’ve been dancing since I was four and it is one of the most important things in my life. I’m going to be completely honest here, I was never that kid who knew from a young age that she was meant to dance. Actually, the main reason I started going to Bharatnatyam classes was because my older sister went and I was under the impression that anything she could do, I could do and do it much better at that too. So at age 5 I began learning Bhartnatyam from Sandhya Aunty. And through my childhood, I enjoyed it mainly because I got to do something with all of my friends. Ask my mom I hated practicing dance. To this day, I still don’t know why I disliked it so much but go figure. It wasn’t until I was about 14 that I realized how important dance really is to me. When I dance or watch dance, I get transported to a completely different world, where the only things that matter are the dancer and the music. It’s a way for me to express without words emotions and situations, and as far as I’m concerned, Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi are two of the worlds most beautiful artforms. I am so fortunate to have been able to learn two different styles of Indian classical dance along with my two sisters and to have a simply amazing teacher. I hope that dance continues to be an important part of my life for many many years to come.
